Well the Oldsmobile is done. Her joints have been replaced and she no longer feels like she’s all over the road. Next project on her is either going to be adjusting the steering box or new tires…guess it depends on funds. Also changed the 20 year old oil while we were under there and corrected a few ‘jury rigs’ that the last owner did to her.
As for me, doing okay on the writing front. Picked up a few more clients so I’m keeping busy. Between housework, yard work (and there is a lot) and writing, I am almost continually on the go. My only problem is keeping myself on track and not distracted by video games, blogs etc.
Things have been hectic since my last post, I haven’t even had a chance to read or respond to any of my normal blogs. I’ve had a lot of writing to do lately, most of it ghost writing so I can’t even lay claim to it, but it pays the bills.
For a mother’s day/birthday gift my hubby bought me the front end assembly for my Oldsmobile, so once that shows up I’ll be spending a lot of time of underneath her replacing 70-year-old joints (if only it was that easy for the rest of us). Once done it will be a lot safer to take her to the car shows and I won’t have to worry about breaking something every time I hit a bump.
This is going to be my last free weekend for the next several months. The only thing I have planned is some yard work from here out I have every weekend booked, and some of them are double booked. It’s going to be a busy summer.
Not much else to say so I’m just going to sign off. Have a good one.
Sorry I’ve been gone for a while and I didn’t even go anywhere. The storm this morning seemed to energize me and wake me up so I’ve been busy this morning. I’ve got bread started and plans to start a soup a little later.
The last several weeks I seem to have been in a slump; I was here, I was doing stuff, but for the life of me I couldn’t tell you what I was doing with my days. I was going through the motions and doing what I had to, the bare minimum of what was expected. I slept a lot and did little else. I don’t know if I was sick, tired or depressed but I’m over it now and I am determined to keep my self motivated and moving.
My first steps this morning was a workout, some cleaning and now updating a few of my blogs. I then have some articles I need to write and I need to start looking for some more customers. That was probably what started me off, two of my big clients decided to take their blogs and newsletters in a different direction. It seems there are still a lot of companies out there having problems and they are chopping corners everywhere they can.
One thing I know I did while in my slump was apply for a city job. I am more than qualified for it, which may be my problem. It’s basically a secretarial job for the public works department, and pays lower than I would like but it’s very close to home has full benefits and should have enough flexibility that I can work it around my son’s school schedule next year. I just hope I get it.
I probably know more about water and waste water treatment than 90% of their operations crew which may be my hindering factor, other than that I know computers, I can type, I know the area and I know members of the city council. I can just keep my fingers crossed.
Wish me luck.
Blog of the Year
I might be a little slow, but now I get to choose nominees for the 2012 Blog Of the Year Award.
I’ll be honest, there aren’t many I actually read, there are a few blogs I subscribe to and a lot that I casually look at. The ones that get and hold my attention are the ones I will nominate.
A blog I read almost continuously as he always has new and interesting ideas and suggestions on various work at home jobs and business growth. A well laid out blog that I enjoy
Always good for a chuckle or a groan as they bring to light the numerous spelling and grammar errors in the public media. I’m just grateful that I don’t fall under their radar.
Sometimes Humorous, sometimes just sage words of advice. This blog is always an entertaining read as the author blurts about everything.
And now for the rules:
The ‘rules’ for this award are simple:
1 Select the blog(s) you think deserve the ‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award
2 Write a blog post and tell us about the blog(s) you have chosen – there’s no minimum or maximum number of blogs required – and ‘present’ them with their award.
3 Please include a link back to this page ‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award – http://thethoughtpalette.co.uk/our-awards/blog-of-the-year-2012-award/ and include these ‘rules’ in your post (please don’t alter the rules or the badges!)
4 Let the blog(s) you have chosen know that you have given them this award and share the ‘rules’ with them
5 You can now also join our Facebook group – click ‘like’ on this page ‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award Facebook group and then you can share your blog with an even wider audience
6 As a winner of the award – please add a link back to the blog that presented you with the award – and then proudly display the award on your blog and sidebar … and start collecting stars…
and for that I apologize.
I’d like to start by saying THANK YOU to Homepreneurs for nominating me for a 2012 Blog of the Year Award. I will have to sit down and come up with my own list as there are several of you I read on a regular basis that I would like to nominate.
On The Writing Side of Things:
Well I made a mistake and underbid a job by a huge amount. I swear I had checked my numbers a few times. And I honestly don’t know what I was thinking when I when I sent my bid off to the customer. I thought they had jumped at it pretty quick, it wasn’t until I looked at it the next day that I realized I had quoted a rate at half of what I would normally charge. Oh well, live and learn. It’s still money, it’s just a lot less than it should have been.
On the Personal Side of Things:
Looks like once again I am playing counselor to people. Here are some basic rules to live by that apply to almost any large regularly gathered group of people. This is geared to a specific group, but it works anywhere;
Things everyone needs to remember about faire:
1. Faire friends are frequently fair friends
2. Faire is high school for adults that never grew up
3. Faire anything is gossip central
4. Faire is full of elitist cliques
5. Faire has a lot of blades, and many of them end up in backs
Your true friends will always prove themselves in the end. Like your closet, you need to clean out your associates occasionally.
I was recently asked by a fellow blogger if they could interview me, of course I agreed. I don’t see the appeal but I am greatly flattered.
I’ve been plodding along here writing but I haven’t done anything spectacular. I haven’t rescued any children from burning buildings or made any grand donations to medical science. I am just me, April Carvelli, trying to see how well I can survive in the digital world. I am in a totally different field after almost 20 years dealing with field service and water/wastewater treatment.
I filled out his questionnaire and returned it to him, so I guess I will shortly be featured on Homepreneurs, which is very cool. In the meantime go and check out his site as there is some very cool information on there, he finds some of the best sites. Most recently a Free website creator, which he wrote about in his blog.
It looks like the year has started out with a bang. I’ve almost more work than I can handle, however I know it won’t last everything tends to go in spurts when you’re freelancing. I’m sure that after this I will have a very dry spell as well.
Writing is going pretty good, a lot of ghost articles which I can’t lay claim to but my published articles are all over at Killerteacup. I really enjoy writing the tech articles, but I am trying to pick up a couple of the parenting sites too. One of them just ordered some more articles from me, so that is looking good.
I pick up some spare cash doing website and program testing. One of the programs I recently did messed my computer up pretty badly, it took me a few hours to fix it. However; I will state that it was my own stupidity, I should have run the program in a sandbox and I didn’t. Keep that in mind folks if you are unsure about a program..use a sandbox to play with it first.
I have started a new blog over on blogger.com because they won’t let me post affiliate links on here. The new blog is called Show Me The Way To and will be about saving money. I will have a section on Saving Money, Making Money, and Re-Purposing items. It’s still in the fledgling stages, but I plan to put up legitimate things. All of the affiliate links will only go up if I have made or saved money through them.
Hope the New Year is going just as well for all of you.
